A busy autumn of IRATA assessments.

Despite a big block of lost time this summer thanks to 4 successive operations on my left eye I am fully operational again, and have had a busy autumn of IRATA assessments and training in France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Denmark and the Netherlands.

For Trainer Member Companies it has been a tricky time as many rely on Assessors from the UK who have mostly been stuck unable to travel, whereas from my base in France I have been able to move around most of Western Europe with minimal paperwork and the occasional PCR test…

Last week I was over at Kong in Italy near the home town of the fabled Ragni di Lecco climbing group. A good morning with a small team of solid (and already experienced) level 1 candidates who had been well trained by Federico. Alla prossima!

IRATA Assessor & Instructor Workshop

Last weekend 70 IRATA Assessors, Instructors and Level 3s from 13 different nations got together at Petzl HQ in Crolles for an IRATA Workshop. The event was organised by Formacan France, and hosted by the team at Petzl.

Besides the recommended agenda topics from IRATA, Formacan had also put together a range of workshops including a presentation on the latest research in management of casualties at height, use of the Pantin foot ascender, a look at the newest products in Petzl‘s professional range, discussions oin harness/lanyard set-ups, and demonstrations of the new LOV2 descender from TAZ.

All in all a full and interesting day with much useful exchange of ideas.

Friedrichshafen Outdoor Show

Last month I had a busy time working with Petzl putting together some training courses and also organising and delivering workshops for the new GRIGRI+ at the Outdoor Salon in Friedrichshafen – THE big outdoor trade show of the summer. A busy busy week, but a great chance to present the new product and also a good time to meet up with lots of old connections from various parts of the outdoor industry!

International training – Bangkok

I am just back from 8 busy days running some training for Asia block of the Petzl network. Great to be working alongside my Petzl Solutions colleague Chris Blakeley for this trip – we had a mixed bunch of trainers and assistant trainers from South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, China and Malaysia. Lots of work but also some great food and a quick sightseeing blast on Saturday afternoon. Many thanks to Rangsan, Mon, Jasmine and Noon at Rockcamp Thailand for looking after us so well – if you are looking for work at height or IRATA training in Thailand their facility is fantastic – putting rather a lot of European training venues to shame!
